Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background Atrial functional tricuspid regurgitation (A-FTR), defined as TR due to prominent right atrial (RA) dilatation without significant ventricular (RV) remodelling, has recently emerged a distinct subtype FTR, and can be distinguished from FTR (V-FTR), by RV remodelling leading annular leaflet tethering. However, so far no data been reported on the values RA strain in these patients. Purpose To evaluate potential differences right-sided parameters patients diagnosed with severe FTR. Methods Patients cardiac implantable electronic device, were categorized V-FTR when sinus rhythm either having left-sided disease, pulmonary hypertension, or moderate/severe dysfunction. Patients, fibrillation, other cause impaired coaptation than classified A-FTR. Extensive echocardiographic assessment was performed, including 2D-speckle-tracking analysis. Results A total 525 (mean age 66 ± 15 years, 42% male) included, which 401 (76%) 124 (24%) Baseline clinical characteristics are shown Figure 1. presented mild (RV end-diastolic area 12.9 4.0cm2/m2) dysfunction free wall longitudinal [FWLS] 18.3 6.8%), moderate-to-severe (RA max volume 36.8 [26.9 – 52.2] ml/m2) reservoir 17.0 [11.0 27.0] %). Corresponding phenotype, A-FTR significantly smaller size better function (Figure 1). despite overall normal fractional change, plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) FWLS, 27% showed reduced FWLS based cut-off value −20%. In addition, more dilated RA, compared V-FTR, but assessed 2D-strain Notwithstanding, still 73% A-FTR-patients values, using for normality 34%. Conclusion Approximately 25% These pronounced dilatation.

Asymmetry of right ventricular enlargement in response to tricuspid regurgitation.
BACKGROUND Analysis of right ventricular adaptation to tricuspid regurgitation was studied in 10 heart transplant recipients following inadvertent endomyocardial biopsy disruption of the tricuspid apparatus. METHODS AND RESULTS Echocardiography demonstrated progressive diastolic right ventricular cavity enlargement (19.5+/-5.0 to 30.3+/-5.4 cm(2), P<0.0002), with disproportionate elongation a...

Pressure-volume relationships in the right atrium were examined before and after the creation of acute experimental tricuspid regurgitation in pigs. A 1.3 kHz multielectrode impedance catheter with a measuring current of 4 mA was used to determine instantaneous right atrial pressure and relative blood volume; right atrial dimension was assessed simultaneously with ultrasonic crystals attached t...
متن کاملFunctional Tricuspid Regurgitation Caused by Chronic Atrial Fibrillation
Increased mortality among patients with moderate to severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR), regardless of pulmonary hypertension and left ventricular systolic function, has raised interest in the various underlying causes of TR. Causes of TR may be classified into 2 major categories: primary and secondary. Primary TR is caused by an anatomic abnormality of the tricuspid valve (TV) itself, whereas ...
متن کاملAssessment of functional tricuspid regurgitation.
Functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR) is characterized by structurally normal leaflets and is due to the deformation of the valvulo-ventricular complex. While mild FTR is frequent and usually benign, patients with severe FTR may develop progressive ventricular dysfunction and incur increased mortality. Therefore, FTR should not be ignored, should be appropriately diagnosed and quantified by ...
